Even in these tough economic times, there are still many destinations in the United States that can be affordable getaways. The top four include Orlando, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, & Washington DC .

Late May and early June is the off season and would be the best time to find cheap plane tickets.

The beaches from Laguna to Malibu and beyond are perfect for families and couples alike. The 3rd St. Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier are well known destinations for shopping, dinner, and family friendly activities.

Sin City is the hottest and cheapest in August. Pack your swimsuits and sunscreen and head to Vegas for some inexpensive entertainment. Drinks are free in casinos and meals are fairly priced (just don't spend all your money on the slots)!

Allegiant Airlines offers cheap flights in and out of Vegas, or it's a short commute from parts of Southern California, Utah, or Arizona. The Riviera, Ballys, and Excalibur offer the cheapest rates on the strip, or stay on the old strip at The Four Queens for a mere $49/night!

Our nations capital offers many free or almost free activities for the whole family. Ride DC's Metrorail with day passes at $7.80 each. Friendship Park is DC's most popular playground for kids. The Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial are must-sees while in town. If you're traveling with your pet, Lincoln Park on Capitol Hill is very pet-friendly. New York City and the Outer Banks are a short drive away as well. January is the cheapest time to visit here.
