Charlottesville, VA Spring and Summer Events

Each year, major annual festivals and events draw thousands of visitors, starting with First Night Virginia, a fun and safe New Year's Eve celebration on the Downtown Mall. Music, food, fireworks, performing arts and more draw people of all ages: families with infants, senior citizens, teens and adults alike.

In the spring, the Virginia Festival of the Book offers five days of mostly free events celebrating reading and the culture around books - not simply as a consumer passion but as an in-depth exploration of literature. Authors, editors and others give readings, engage in panel discussions and mingle with residents and visitors throughout the community.

The 4th of July celebration and naturalization ceremony at Monticello honors America's Declaration of Independence each summer at the home of its author.
