When three daughters go home to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia they must confront not only their dying mother, but also each other and the truth behind lives they have come to lead. Secrets and long held resentments emerge as we watch these three very different sisters reconnect for the first time in years. While each sister attempts to sort out the emptiness ruling her daily life, we watch as they pick up the pieces, shatter them again, and then pick them up once more.

What it means to be family is at the heart of this touching story. The ideas of holding onto the vision you had for yourself as well as the vision of what your parents wanted for you is a central theme running throughout the play. These concepts are all the more distressing for the daughters as they begin to finally understand who they are, who each other are, and how they came to be that way.

Marion Bridge is the humorous, irreverent, and moving story by Daniel MacIvor that demonstrates the absolute power of family and how it can heal as much as it harms.

“This moving drama, which tiptoes toward sentimentality without ever reaching it, is the most surprising play that [MacIvor’s] ever written. When was the last time you saw a drama about three distinct, complex women that had nothing to do with their relationships with men?”
