2009 Home Price Comparison

It comes to my attention on occasion that I am rather boastful of my Southern Heritage, of course I come from a proud line of "Carpet Baggers" that originally came through Georgia with Sherman 150 years ago and never left. I also find this same passion regarding Athens, GA and in the relative affordability in the Greater Athens area housing market. I came upon a tool this morning that I thought was kind of "neat," for lack of a better word. It is called the 2009 Home Price Comparison Index and was compiled by a national real estate brokerage company. It allows you to get an approximate value of how much your home might cost in different markets across not only the State of Georgia, but also across the United States.

If you are relocating to Georgia or are contemplating your choices regarding a retirement destination this is pretty insightful information, especially if you want to get the most bang for your bucks on housing!

For example a home with a market value of $150,000.00 near Athens, GA
can be expected to cost approximately:

$202,632.00 in Ashville, NC

$228,947.00 in Bend, OR

$163,158.00 in Austin, TX

$171,053.00 in Fort Collins, CO

$165,789.00 in Tucson, AZ

Athens was shown to have an average home price of $205,862 and had one of the lowest home price index values (57) out of 310 markets studied. Just one more reason to visit our "Bubble City of Goodness" today. Visit, have a glass of Ice-Tea, and I promise you won't ever want to leave!
