Paso Robles, California Details

Paso Robles is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, It’s the fastest growing city in San Luis Obispo County and renowned for their thermal springs. For a time, Paso Robles was known as the ‘Almond City’ because the local almond growers created the largest area of almond orchards in the world.

Located in a pass with reliable winds from the West, Paso Robles hosts several wind farms which generate electric power with wind generators. The Paso Robles Wine Country is one of the fastest growing premium vineyard and winery regions in California, with the number of bonded wineries and vineyard area in Paso Robles more than doubling between 1993 and 2003. More than 22 different varieties of grapes are grown in the Paso Robles Wine Country and there are over 200 wineries. Paso Robles grape growers, wineries and wine tasting rooms united to form the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance in 1993. They are dedicated to the promotion and education of the Paso Robles premium wine country.

Every year in March and April, the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance hosts the Zinfandel Festival, during which California Zinfandel producers and enthusiasts come together for an evening of wine, food and celebration of California’s heritage varietal.

In addition, each year in May, the Paso Robles Wine Festival is held. The festival attracts visitors from all over the state, and features wines form nearly all of the local wineries as well as local cuisine.

Paso Robles offers all the amenities of family life including attractive and available housing, ample City services, state-of-the-art recreation facilities, easy access retail shopping, excellent public schools, and safe neighborhoods.

The City understands the importance of business and works hard to attract commerce in a diverse array of industries. The local economy is healthy with a 2004 gross product of $1,600,000,000. With just 11% of San Luis Obispo County’s population, the City has 19% of retail sales, 40% of manufacturing jobs. Paso Robles has sustained strong, uninterrupted economic growth since 1993.

Paso Robles holds the charm of a rural community, but is developing into a center of industry, viticulture, recreation, commerce, and housing. It is truly a place with something for everyone.

Hunter Ranch Golf Course is the only 4- star golf course in the area. Other public courses include River Oaks, the Paso Robles Golf Club, and The Links.

Property is assessed at 100% of full cash value.  The maximum amount of tax on real estate is limited to 1% of the full cash value.  After taxes have been paid, homeowners 62 and older who earn $35,051 or less may file a claim for assistance on 96 percent of property taxes, up to $34,000 of the assessed value of their homes.

Homestead Exemption

Under the homestead program, the first $7,000 of the full value of a homeowner’s dwelling is exempt. The state has a property tax postponement program that allows eligible homeowners (seniors, blind and disabled residents) to postpone payments of property taxes on their principal place of residence.  Interest is charged on the postponed taxes.
